Threads of Identity approaches weaving as more than a traditional craft; it is a form of memory, carrying within its threads the history of a place, the imprint of the hand, and knowledge passed down from one generation to another.
The programme gives artists the opportunity to explore traditional Bahraini weaving techniques, tools and history, and to reinterpret them through their own contemporary practices. Through collaboration between the artists, the master weaver and the curators, it moves from learning and observation to experimentation and, finally, to the production of artworks presented in a closing exhibition.
Over seven weeks, ten artists worked with master weaver Habib Mohammed Saleh at the Bani Jamra textile factory, learning the loom and its materials before weaving one piece each, in five pairs, from 20 to 29 September. Each artist then completed the woven piece in their own language: fabric, crochet, embroidery, dyeing, rope, yarn, natural and synthetic materials.
The exhibition brings together the ten resulting works, presenting weaving not as a craft preserved in the past but as an open space for experimentation and for rethinking identity, memory and place.

ينطلق برنامج خيوط الهوية من النسيج بوصفه أكثر من حرفة؛ فهو ذاكرة تحمل في خيوطها تاريخ المكان، وأثر اليد، والمعرفة المتوارثة من جيل إلى آخر.
يهدف البرنامج إلى إتاحة مساحة للفنانين للتعرف على تقنيات النسيج التقليدي البحريني، وأدواته، وتاريخه، ثم إعادة قراءته من خلال ممارساتهم الفنية المعاصرة. ومن خلال التعاون بين الفنانين، والحرفي، والقيّمين الفنيين، ينتقل البرنامج من التعلم والملاحظة إلى التجريب ثم إلى إنتاج أعمال فنية تُعرض في معرض ختامي.
على مدى سبعة أسابيع، عمل عشرة فنانين مع حرفي النسيج حبيب محمد صالح في مصنع بني جمرة للنسيج، حيث تعرفوا على النول وخاماته قبل أن ينسج كل فنان قطعته ضمن خمس مجموعات ثنائية في الفترة من ٢٠ إلى ٢٩ سبتمبر. ثم استكمل كل فنان عمله بأسلوبه الخاص: قطع القماش، أو الكروشيه، أو التطريز، أو الصباغة، أو الحبال والخيوط والمواد الطبيعية والصناعية.
يجمع المعرض الأعمال العشرة الناتجة، ويقدم النسيج لا بوصفه حرفة محفوظة في الماضي، بل كمساحة مفتوحة للتجريب وإعادة التفكير في الهوية والذاكرة والمكان.
